The game is more about tenacity and playing long enough for the RNG to allow you your victory. Often no manner of prep nor any decisions you make (other than to attempt retreat and leave the dungeon) will save your heroes lives in the end. The game is DESIGNED to kill your heroes and it was designed well. In the end though, the game is all about the RNG so you really shouldn't take any setbacks personally. Losing one of those will set you back several weeks of gameplay and the Champion level dungeons are quite hungry for heroes. The real pain comes once they have been trained to level 5+ and have level 5 skills and level 5 armaments that you have paid for, plus have been "cleaned" of all their bad quirks.
If they live and don't break then they can advance, if not well there's always the graveyard or the dismiss button and more to come from the stagecoach. In fact, I always look at my lower level heroes as "tryouts" for the team. I highly advise that once you see this pattern start, you attempt to retreat and abandon the dungeon unless you want to lose one or more heroes.Īs others have stated, in the beginning the loss of heroes is not that big of a setback. It will also tend to focus on just one character exclusively. will get continuous and consecutive crits on your characters. I am not sure if the game has some kind of "winning streak" counter used in the game or if it is a totally random event but you will encounter fights where the A.I.
If you think the RNG is punishing in the early game, just wait until you attempt the Champion level dungeons.
